Armenian Ceramics
Various cultures represent pomegranates differently. In Greek myth, it represents regeneration, resurrection. In Judaism, pomegranate symbolizes fertility & eternity. Basically, in early Christian Art it represented eternal life and the many seeds were supposed to be the tree of life, Armenians consider it to be the symbol of life & fertility.

Rouben Stepanyan
In 1970’s Rouben Stepanyan elaborated a new method of ceramics where he remarkably combined ancient Armenian pottery and modern art souvenirs. His art was later developed in totally different direction by his wife, Anahit Makaryan, son, Mihran Stepanyan, and son’s wife, Arpine Gishyan.

Anahit Makaryan
Anahit Makaryan actively introduced the elements of ancient Armenian manuscripts into souvenir ceramics, thus creating unparalleled examples of applies art, which are made in the spirit of medieval Armenian art. Teaching in the School of Art, she educates a new generation of potters.

Mihran Stepanyan & Arpine Gishyan
Relying on the knowledge they received from Rouben Stepanyan and Anahit Makaryan, Mihran Stepanyan and Arpine Gishyan already have their own style as they convey ceramics extraordinary subtlety. Now they are engaged in developing new methods and ideas in ceramics.
